Google Maps picks up speed limits and radar locations in over 40 countries android os

Google Maps users can now access one of Waze's best features.

What you need to know

  • Google Maps now shows locations of speed cameras and speed limits.
  • The feature was in limited testing in the U.S., but is now rolling out to 40 countries.
  • If all of this sounds familiar, it's because Waze already offers a similar feature.

Google Maps is picking up a feature from Waze that lets users view speed limits, locations of speed cameras and mobile speed cameras. The feature was in limited testing in the U.S. and other markets, but is now rolling out widely to over 40 countries.

The speed limit shows up in the bottom left corner of the app, and speed cameras show up as icons on the route. The feature is available for both Android and iOS users, but only Android users will be able to report mobile speed cameras and stationary camera locations. Here's the full list of countries where the feature is available, as noted by TechCrunch:

  • Australia
  • Brazil
  • U.S.
  • Canada
  • U.K.
  • India
  • Mexico
  • Russia
  • Japan
  • Andorra
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Czechia
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Israel
  • Italy
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait
  • Latvia
  • Lithuania
  • Malta
  • Morocco
  • Namibia
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Oman
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Qatar
  • Romania
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Serbia
  • Slovakia
  • South Africa
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Tunisia
  • Zimbabwe

Waze offers more detailed information — including red lights, hazards, road closures, and even accidents — with the platform relying on crowdsourced information. But the interface can be daunting, and with Google Maps integrating speed limit warnings, the feature is now accessible to a much larger audience.

Amazon reportedly wants to buy Boost Mobile from T-Mobile and Sprint android os

It looks like Amazon is interested in becoming a full-fledged wireless carrier.

What you need to know

  • Amazon is said to be interested in buying Boost Mobile from Sprint.
  • T-Mobile and Sprint have agreed to sell Boost as part of their merger conditions.
  • Amazon could also pick up spectrum from T-Mobile and Sprint.

T-Mobile and Sprint have announced their intent to sell Boost Mobile should their $26.5 billion merger go through, and it looks like there's an unlikely candidate to pick up the MVNO: Amazon. According to Reuters, Amazon is interested in buying the MVNO from T-Mobile and Sprint as it would allow the retailer to use T-Mobile's wireless network for at least six years.

What makes this rather puzzling is that Boost Mobile is Sprint's MVNO, and it doesn't use any of T-Mobile's wireless spectrum. That said, the U.S. Justice Department is keen on maintaining the status quo with four national carriers, and that could likely involve both carriers divesting some spectrum.

In that scenario, Amazon could pick up the spectrum from T-Mobile and Sprint, and in effect become the fourth national carrier. But that doesn't answer another question: why Amazon would want to become a wireless carrier in the first place. Amazon made its foray into retail with the acquisition of Whole Foods back in 2017, but I'm not sure how becoming a full-fledged carrier ties into the company's strategy.

What are your thoughts on Amazon becoming a carrier?

Netflix is raising prices for UK subscribers by as much as 20% android os

This is the first price hike for UK subscribers since 2017.

What you need to know

  • Netflix is increasing prices for the first time in two years.
  • The standard plan now costs £8.99, and the premium plan is going up to £11.99.
  • The basic plan is unchanged at £5.99.

Netflix is hiking its prices in the UK for the first time in two years. The basic plan — which lets viewers stream on a single device in standard definition — is being unchanged at £5.99 ($7.50), but the standard plan is getting a £1 increase to £8.99 ($11.35). The standard plan is Netflix's most popular subscription option, offering the ability to stream on two devices simultaneously at 1080p resolution.

The premium plan is seeing a £2 hike, and now costs £11.99 ($15.10) a month. The new pricing will go into effect immediately for new subscribers, and will be rolled out to existing customers "over the coming weeks." Netflix instituted a similar price hike in the U.S. and Latin American markets earlier this year, and the streaming service is increasingly turning to subscription revenue as a way to fuel its $15 billion original content push.

In a statement to The Guardian, a Netflix spokesman said that the streaming service is ""great value for money" in spite of the price hike, and that Netflix is working on more than 50 productions in the UK this year alone:

We change our prices from time to time to reflect the significant investments we've made in new TV shows and films, as well as improvements to our product.

We have more than 50 productions planned in the UK this year, including new seasons of Black Mirror, Sex Education and After Life. Our basic membership will remain at the same price, ensuring as many people as possible can enjoy our content.

Everything we know so far about the Galaxy Note 10! android os

Stay up to date with all the latest on Samsung's newest Note.

The Android space can sometimes feel like a crowded mess when going to buy a new phone, but year after year, there are some devices that manage to stand out above everything else being offered. For a while now, Samsung's Galaxy Note series has managed to do just that.

Samsung uses its Galaxy Note line to show off the best it has to offer, making it a consistently great choice for power users. Not only that, it's still one of the only smartphone options if you want a built-in stylus experience.

In 2019, we're expecting Samsung to continue this legacy with the Galaxy Note 10. From the latest news, rumors, pictures, and more, here's everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy Note 10!

How many models are we expecting?

Ever since the first Galaxy Note was released in 2011, there's only been one version of the phone released at a given time. This year, however, Samsung might be looking to shake things up.

According to a report from ET News, Samsung is planning on releasing as many as four different models of the Note 10. This includes two LTE options, one with a 6.28-inch screen and another with a 6.75-inch screen, and two 5G ones.

This would be one of the biggest changes we've ever seen to the Galaxy Note's release formula, but if it worked well for the Galaxy S10 which also got four models, it'd make sense for Samsung to bring that over to the Note 10, too.

A May 30 report claimed something a bit different, saying that Samsung will only launch two different versions of the phone, so we'll have to wait and see how things shake out.

What's it going to look like?

As of right now, we haven't seen any leaked renders or pictures that give us a real idea as to what the Galaxy Note 10 will look like. Even so, we can make some assumptions.

For starters, it's safe to say that the Note 10 will have a hole-punch cutout of some kind in its display to accommodate the front-facing camera(s). This is something we saw on the Galaxy S10, so we expect it to carry over to the Note 10 as well.

A glass back also seems likely seeing as how that's something Samsung's been doing since the Note 5, and we can also expect there to be at least three rear cameras on the back.

Something that could prove to be very interesting is the potential lack of buttons on the phone. A report from March 29 suggested that the Galaxy Note 10 will ditch traditional buttons in favor of pressure-sensitive sides that mimic the feel and function of them. This point was reiterated on May 30, along with the notion that the Note 10 could ship without a 3.5mm headphone jack.

What specs will it have?

Specifications for the Galaxy Note 10 remain a mystery, but similar to the design, there are a few assumptions we can safely make.

It only makes sense the phone will ship with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 processor. The Note 10 is also usually home to a lot of RAM, and this year, we can expect anywhere between 8GB and 12GB.

Reports indicate that two of the Note 10 models will have display sizes of 6.28-inches and 6.75-inches, in addition to triple and quad camera setups on the back. Lastly, in regards to connectivity, Verizon confirmed on April 25 that the Galaxy Note 10 will support 5G.

How much will it cost?

Flagship smartphones have always been expensive, but in recent years, prices hikes seem to be happening more and more often. For context, here's the MSRP of some past Galaxy Note phones:

  • Galaxy Note 5: $700
  • Galaxy Note 7: $834
  • Galaxy Note 8: $930
  • Galaxy Note 9: $1000

For the Galaxy Note 10, I'd imagine we'll get a starting price of $1000 once again, with some of the other rumored models going for as much as $1500 — if not more.

Carrier financing will certainly help lessen the burden, but if you plan on buying the Note 10 outright, you'll want to start saving your money ASAP.

When can I buy it?

Samsung typically launches its latest Note phone in either late August or mid-September. Past release dates include the following:

  • Galaxy Note 5: August 21, 2015
  • Galaxy Note 7: August 19, 2016
  • Galaxy Note 8: September 15, 2017
  • Galaxy Note 9: August 24, 2018

We have no reason to believe Samsung is changing its release cycle for the Note 10, so expect it to arrive around the same timeframe.

What about the Galaxy Note 9?

The Note 10 will undoubtedly be a better smartphone than last year's Galaxy Note 9, but that doesn't mean you should count the Note 9 out quite yet.

If you don't care about having the very latest and greatest, the Note 9's a pretty great phone here in 2019. It's still plenty fast, has pretty great dual rear cameras, one of the best AMOLED displays around, and it's since been updated to Android 9/Samsung One UI.

The best part? Since its release, you can now buy it for considerably less money compared to its original MSRP of $1000.

Still good

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

A great purchase for thrifty shoppers.

Not concerned about owning the very latest phone as soon as it comes out? The Galaxy Note 9 is absolutely still worth a look. It's every bit as fast, powerful, and stunning now as it was when it was first released, the only difference being it now costs a heck of a lot less.

Whether you pick up the Galaxy Note 9 now or plan on getting the Note 10 when it comes out, the following accessories will help to make your experience even better.

Add some space

MicroSD cards are a great way to expand your phone's storage without spending too much money, and one of our favorites is this 128GB card from Samsung. It adds a good amount of space and is easy on the wallet.

Whether you get the Note 9 or Note 10, the Galaxy Buds are a perfect companion. They're truly wireless earbuds that offer good sound quality, a comfortable fit, and long battery life.

  • The game launches on October 25.
  • The game features cross-play and no season pass.
  • You can preorder it for $60 through Amazon.

After a few weeks of leaks, Activision finally unveiled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare today. The game appears to be a soft reboot of the franchise but tells a new story. Captain Price is back and he looks better than ever. According to the publisher, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare should launch on October 25 for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4. Keep in mind that the PC version is exclusive to Blizzard's Battle.net launcher.

The game's trailer features photorealistic visuals and looks like a step above Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and even Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. According to an in-depth analysis by Digital Foundry, the engine powering Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been in development for five years, and should be used in future games from other developers as well. You can read an excerpt from the report below.

One of the key objectives with the latest engine is to help lay the foundation for the future of the Call of Duty series, with initial work starting on the revamp as long as five years ago. Going forward, Infinity Ward's work will be shared across studios such as Sledgehammer and Raven Games, where there has already been a healthy collaborative history.

Hopefully, the new engine will work well with next-generation machines as they're right around the corner. However, only time will tell. Until then, we can enjoy the experience on current-generation machines.

While the title's reveal trailer blew everyone away with its photorealistic visuals in a new engine, the real highlights from the announcement have to be the fact that it supports cross-play and ditches the season pass. According to Activision, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare features cross-play for consoles and PC, meaning that PlayStation 4 players will be able to play with PC players, and vice versa.

The season pass has fragmented Call of Duty players for years, and now everyone will be able to play together. Gamers have been asking the publisher to remove the season pass for quite some time, and it looks like it's finally happening in 2019.

These are the best wireless mice for Chromebooks android os

While your Chromebook's trackpad works well enough for most situations, there are some tasks for which a wireless mouse is better. Whether you need a wireless mouse to scroll through long documents faster, or want to perform fine manipulations, there's a great wireless mouse out there with your name on it. Here are a few of our favorites.

Use anywhere

Logitech MX Anywhere 2S

Staff pick

This compact Bluetooth-capable mouse can be used on almost any surface (even glass) and has great battery life. While custom button functions aren't available for Chrome, you can pair it with up to three devices at once and switch seamlessly between.

Built for smaller hands

Autley Wireless Ergonomic Mouse

For some of us, a mouse can be too big to comfortably use — especially when it's an ergonomically designed model. This mouse from Autley has all the features you want like adjustable DPI and full compatibility with any operating system and is sized specifically to fit smaller hands.

$13 at Amazon

Ergonomic affordability

Logitech M535 Compact Bluetooth Mouse

This is a compact Bluetooth mouse without any compromises. It's comfortable thanks to the ergonomic design and rubber grips, and the compact design makes it easy to slip into a laptop bag or backpack. Best of all, it has an accurate optical sensor to keep everything nice and tight.

Long life, low price

Logitech Wireless Mouse M510

If you want a wireless mouse that is comfortable to hold, comes in different colors, and has a long battery life — users report about one year on average — then check the Logitech M510. Your wallet will be as happy as you are!

$19 at Amazon

Keep Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Logitech M570 Wireless Trackball Mouse

A trackball offers precision that you'll never get through hand and wrist movement but can also be something you don't want to use all of the time. The answer is this combo mouse and trackball from Logitech that gives the best of both worlds along with super-long battery life.

$27 at Amazon

A Basic Mouse

Amazon Basics Wireless Mouse

Sometimes all you want or need are the basics. This three button mouse uses a 2.4GHz USB receiver and a one year warranty and does exactly what it's supposed to do. And does it well for just $10.

$10 at Amazon

Swiss-Army Mouse

Logitech M720 Triathlon

Start with a precision laser for accurate tracking, toss in a newly sculpted body, big free-spinning wheel, and redesigned thumb button, and you have this Logitech option. Keep the Bluetooth or USB receiver options and multi-device pairing from the original and see why we love the M720 Triathlon.

$34 at Amazon

King of the Hill

Logitech MX Master 2S

Some love it because of the shape, others because of its ability to track anywhere (even frosted glass) or because it's rechargeable. But almost everyone (sorry lefties) agrees it's one of the best wireless mice you can buy for any computer including your Chromebook.

$70 at Amazon

Handshake design

Anker 2.4G Wireless Vertical Ergonomic Mouse

The "handshake" position when using a mouse for long periods of time means less strain on your wrist and forearm and it's well worth giving a vertical mouse a try. Anker makes that easy with its offering; you get premium product and a cheap price tag along with a wrist that isn't sore at the end of the day.

$20 at Amazon

Keep a mouse nearby

Your Chromebook's trackpad probably gets plenty of use — I know mine does. but sometimes you really can benefit from using a mouse. Editing pictures or playing games come to mind, as do long days filled with spreadsheets. Keeping a mouse handy can be a lifesaver sometimes.

With so many Logitech products on the list its no wonder the company sells so many computer peripherals — but it also happens to make most of our favorite wireless mice. My personal favorites are the MX Anywhere 2S to keep in my laptop bag (it seriously works anywhere) and the M720 Triathlon to use around the house.

Ergonomic mice are a big hit, too, and once you get used to the design you'll find that your wrist and forearm feel better after a long day. It's great seeing products that won't break the bank like Anker's Vertical Mouse and a mouse that's ergonomic and designed for smaller hands from Autley means everyone can have better "wrist health". No matter what your needs might be, there's a wireless mouse you can use!

Captain Price is back and he looks better than ever. According to the publisher, the game will launch on October 25 for Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4. Contrary to rumors, it won't be coming to Nintendo Switch. Additionally, the PC version is exclusive to Blizzard's Battle.net launcher.

A report by Eurogamer provided more details about the project. The game will support cross-play between consoles and PC, and ditch the season pass model which has fragmented players in the past. The outlet said the following.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be the first in the franchise to support cross-play for PC and consoles. The series' now-outdated season pass model has been eliminated, meanwhile, to ensure additional maps and other bits of post-launch content don't fragment the game's player base.

It's great to see that Activision adopting modern industry practices for the game. Hopefully, the story will be an emotional and thrilling journey. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 only focuses on multiplayer, and it feels like an incomplete game.

The stakes have never been higher as players take on the role of lethal Tier One operators in a heart-racing saga that will affect the global balance of power. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare engulfs fans in an incredibly raw, gritty, provocative narrative that brings unrivaled intensity and shines a light on the changing nature of modern war. Developed by the studio that started it all, Infinity Ward delivers an epic reimagining of the iconic Modern Warfare series from the ground up. In the visceral and dramatic single-player story campaign, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare pushes boundaries and breaks rules... Players will engage in breathtaking covert operations alongside a diverse cast of international special forces throughout iconic European cities and volatile expanses of the Middle East.

Developer Infinity Ward's studio head Dave Stohl further discussed the game. He added the following about the reveal.

We are creating an emotionally charged experience that's inspired by the headlines in the world today, where the rules are grey and battle lines are blurred. Players will join a varied cast of international special forces and freedom fighters in gripping and heart-pounding missions... It's intense, it's exciting, and we can't wait for our fans to play this October.
